OTSI Investigations into Bus Rollaways

The News video of a recent Bus Rollaway in Casino NSW depicts clearly how warning alerts do NOT work to stop vehicle rollaways!

By the time an audible / visual alert has occurred, the Driver / Operator processes the Alert, then takes corrective action, the Vehicle has already moved a distance, potentially causing damage and harm.

As can be derived from the video, the Bus Parkbrake was not applied, resulting in the Bus rolling away across a busy road and into a Petrol Station. This could have been a catastrophic event if it were not for the quick mind / action of a young school student that jumped inot Driver's seat and applied the Service brakes

This recent news article reported by the ABC Magazine also refers to a recent Bus Rollaway event that has prompted an investigation by the NSW Office of Transport and Safety Investigations (OTSI) into on Bus Rollaways.
